What is "KILL"?

"KILL" is a minimal scale project I made by myself at the start of my second semester as a first year Game Design student. The theme, which I received from a friend, was the basis for the creation of this intense arcade shooter.

What does "KILL" mean to me?

"KILL", to me, means the thorough and absolute destruction of life. It was not an act I wanted to glorify in such a sense that I would add a reward system characteristic of this type of game. Instead, I wanted to communicate the whole breadth of disgust and grotesqueness that came from strange creatures akin to humans stuck in a perpetual firefight and dousing one another in their blood.

What's up with those sounds and visuals?

In making "KILL", I wanted to provide a simple twist on classic shooter gameplay, as well as emulate some of the mechanics that made old school arcade laser shooters so engaging.

To assist in this endeavor, I attempted to create a barebones but efficient and unique audiovisual universe: one where the roughness of every element contributed to the grotesque sentiment of violence I wanted to transmit.

Learning to use construct

The creation of this project was in no small part motivated by a need to get familiar with the Construct 3 engine, as I was heading into a whole semester of Construct 3 project development.

By integrating a small scale gameplay loop as well as both animated visuals and audio: I was able to reach an understanding of the engine that allowed me to be efficient and reliable during our group project ChromAttacK.
